Sixteenth Tabernacle Church Groundbreaking

The Groundbreaking for the 3 phased renovation and expansion of the Sixteenth Tabernacle Church took place on Sunday, May 6th.

The Sixteenth Tabernacle Church is located in Alexandria at 634 N. Patrick Street.

The Church was founded 1915 and has occupied various locations until purchasing this historical wooden Dutch clap sided church in 1976.

The Congregation has been planning to enlarge the Church for some time.

The proposed work in Phase I is to restore the wood framing of the Church.  Wooden joists and studs have deteriorated, and will be replaced; and the exterior siding will be restored.  The crawl space below the Church will be excavated, and a sub surface drainage system will be installed.  New pine flooring and interior renovation to the Church naïve are scheduled in Phase I.

Phase II will enlarge the kitchen and toilets, including a dining area and office.

Phase III will add a meeting hall to double the size of the Church.

The Groundbreaking was attended by Bill Stepanick and his wife, Pam, and John Bellingham.

John Bellingham spoke to the Congregation about the proposed renovation and commented on the Congregation’s incredible enthusiasm.  During the service, he had concerns that the Congregation’s enthusiasm may have caused the floor to collapse, such was the enthusiast rejoicing of the Church.

Following the Dedication Service, a Groundbreaking occurred.

Work should start in 4 weeks, and Phase I should be complete in September 2007.
